Aging should be a period of peace, reflection, and security. Instead, for countless senior citizens in Nigeria, it has become a desperate daily battle for survival. Driven by unprecedented economic pressures, rapid urbanization, changing family structures, and youth migration, a heartbreaking crisis has emerged: our elders are being left behind. Many face the harsh realities of acute isolation, unmanaged chronic illnesses, severe financial distress, and unsafe living environments. Without a robust social safety net, they are vulnerable to emotional neglect and systemic abandonment. They are not strangers; they are our teachers, our grandparents, our neighbors, and the foundational pillars of our communities.
